Nineteen of the Russian's 21 victories have been achieved on hardcourt

A comeback Daniil Medvedev claimed his first title for 882 days with victory over Frenchman Moutet in the Almaty Open title decider.

The Russian, a former number one, has experienced a difficult season, winning just a single victory at the big events and suffering a difficult moment at the US Open.

The player's unpredictability on the professional circuit - and struggles with his serving in specific - led to him falling of the elite rankings and eventually parting ways with former coach his previous coach.

Presently collaborating with his coach and his other coach, Medvedev has steadily improved in the recent weeks - climaxing in a tightly fought three-set victory over Frenchman Corentin Moutet.

This represents his maiden trophy after the Italian tournament and maiden on a hard court after that period of that year.

Success also means Medvedev has secured 21 championships at 21 distinct competitions.

"It's the first time I am participating in a competition with my children simultaneously, so to secure a trophy is really nice," commented ranked player Daniil Medvedev.

"This championship is in honour of my second daughter Victoria, because the maiden victory I won when my child my daughter was delivered was for her."

Medvedev, the past champion, had been defeated in his last six finals, including in that event in the past months.

Medvedev's defensive play style and regular emotional displays on the playing surface had led some to doubt if his capacity to perform at the top level was over.

Yet the athlete has made changes in the last few weeks, attempting to advance forward and perform assertively, backed up by an improved serving game.

Medvedev came back from a disadvantage in the opening set against the difficult Frenchman, securing 4 of the last five points to gain the advantage.

The competitors traded break points in the middle set before the challenger, striving for his first ATP Tour title, took control to push for a third set.

He rescued four early-game opportunities in a tight final set before the champion broke to 15 to secure the win.

Suitably, the winner clinched the win with a point at the net, with his opponent unable to control a shot after two hours and 38 minutes.
