Critical Role Campaign 4 Reveals the Fighters Group

From the very beginning of Campaign 4, recently appointed game master Brennan Lee Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with deep backstory, a diverse cast of heroes, and a gripping narrative featuring celestial beings, fiends, and dark forces increasing in strength within Dol-Makjar.

Heads-up: Spoilers for the third episode of the new season are included.

The Warrior Group Revealed

The latest chapter ended with a major cliffhanger and presented the premier party of adventurers who will separate from the central cast to begin their independent quest, separate from the other two tables.

The combat-focused team includes Teor (played by Travis Willingham), the agile character (Laura), the fierce warrior (the cast member), Wicander (Sam Riegel), and the mysterious adventurer (the actor).

Dividing the Cast

Given a large ensemble, it was clear from the start that having everyone at one table would be unworkable.

This explains, the opening chapters of the new season serve as an Prelude, weaving together the individual narratives before splitting into three distinct groups: Soldiers, Planners, and Questers.

Characteristics of the Combat Party

According to the Dungeon Master, the combat-focused party is for participants who enjoy a classically intense combat and conflict-driven narrative style where non-violent answers are scarce.

Upon first impression, figures such as the squeamish cleric the cleric might seem mismatched, but the developments of episode 3 make it clear why these particular heroes are best suited for the combat party.

Why They Must Go

For one thing, the group knows exactly where to go next after a violent opening clash with the antagonists.

An old friend of the deceased character—whose demise kicked off the story’s plot—used the foes for his selfish purposes, entering the secret base, assaulting the character, and stealing all the enchanted items to auction.

Casimir then paid off his liabilities and fled to a secure base in the remote area, above the city, with Cyd Pridesire pursuing him.

Character Drivers

Moreover, each character has a specific drive to exit Dol-Makjar:

  • Thimble, as the close ally and trusted friend, wants revenge.
  • Kattigan is familiar with the region and cautions that it is a dangerous location.
  • Tyranny and The healer, having disobeyed his family’s wishes to eliminate the target and instead freed him, have no other options.
  • But, their reputation as important members in House Halovar could help the group enter locations they normally couldn’t.
  • Additionally, The fighter swore a life debt to The savior for his rescue and will now accompany him anywhere.

Wanted and Hunted

In addition, all of them are sought by the powers that govern the setting for a multiple motives, making lingering locally dangerous:

  • The rogue and Kattigan are notorious outlaws.
  • Tyranny and The cleric turned against the powerful family and the legion of demons they are partnered with.
  • The target is marked for death by the family.

This means them little choice but to journey toward the northern region in search of the antagonist.

What’s Next?

Based on episode three’s follow-up content, we learn that the Soldiers table will not appear in the upcoming installment, leaving the other eight players to assemble the Explorers and Strategists tables.

Audiences can expect finding out which characters will be where in Campaign 4’s concluding setup installment, streaming live on next week.
